Ya know what - thank goodness for sports.
You with me? I've been watching a bit of the NBA playoffs. I haven't really ever even liked the NBA, but right now I choose it over baseball (sorry baseball lovers!) Watching the NBA does make it feel like summer, though. It's weird how we make these connections, huh? I remember when I was younger my whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins would gather at my parents house and watch the NBA playoffs around this time of year, with the grill going outside, and the dr.pepper flowing! I treasure those times.

I have a softball game today (now that I've bashed baseball!). I've never played softball before. For those of you who don't know me, I'm more of the basketball type. Although I can hardly call myself a basketball player anymore - now, it's more like 'slowly running down the court, trying not to dribble the ball off my foot and at least hit the rim if possible' kind of thing. It's still fun and still makes me happy.
I'm hoping that softball will too.
My sister asked me to play on her team and since then we've recruited a couple of our gal friends to play as well so it should be fun! It's coed, and we seem to have a pretty good team. This is based on two practices where we took turns hitting the ball - and what do I know!
This is how I approach these adult leagues anymore... we are all past our prime whether we want to believe it or not. We aren't going to be able to do the things we were once able to do (ahem, run fast, jump high, do a sit up without being sore for days.) The end goal, anymore, is usually to not get hurt as opposed to actually winning the game. I can live with that these days I suppose. I mean, I had a good run in competitive sports...now, I can honestly say it's just for FUN! It also pleases me that even before these "past my prime city league" games, I still get a little nervous and excited.
Here's to trying something new, and stepping out of my comfort zone...
I think we should all do that once in a while, don't you?
